At the launch of SMILE24, travelers will still have to use several apps if a route includes different modes of transport (a so-called “intermodal” route): From summer 2024, the NAHSHUTTLE on-demand service will also provide information directly in the NAH.SH app.
If the NAH.SH app does not currently show you a connection from your starting point to your destination, you have been redirected here. Don’t worry – we’ll get you to your destination!
Please select one of the 3 situations A, B or C and follow the corresponding steps.
Situation A
You want to be taken from the NAHSHUTTLE to a bus line or train and from there by bus / train?
The following steps are necessary:
1. go to the NAHSHUTTLE app.
2. enter your current / desired start address as the start and the bus stop / train station where you want to go as the destination.
3. book the NAHSHUTTLE with a designated arrival time that will get you to the bus stop / station in time for your onward journey.
Info: The part of the route you want to travel by bus/train should be visible in the NAH.SH app and bookable if required. If you have a valid public transport ticket or a Deutschlandticket, please follow the detailed instructions in the FAQ on fares and Deutschlandticket above.
4. if you do not yet have a valid ticket for the bus/train, you can purchase one in the usual ways.
5. have a good journey!
Situation B
You want to start by bus / train and then be picked up by NAHSHUTTLE at a bus stop / train station to get to your destination? The following steps are necessary:
1. go back to the NAH.SH app and search for your desired bus/train connection.
Info: If you are not sure where you can travel to by bus/train and you find the search too time-consuming, go to situation C.
2. if you do not yet have a valid ticket for the bus/train, you can purchase one in the usual ways.
Info: You can also buy a ticket for the entire route (including the NAHSHUTTLE route) directly on the bus or at the station.
3. go to the NAHSHUTTLE app.
4. enter the arrival time of the bus/train at the (researched) stop as the start time (with a little buffer).
5. enter the bus stop/train station where you are getting off as the start and your destination address as the destination.
6. book the NAHSHUTTLE.
Info: If you have already purchased a ticket for the entire route (see step 2), click on “Edit” under Passenger and select the OPNV ticket.
If you have a valid public transport ticket or a Deutschlandticket, you can also follow the detailed instructions in the FAQ on fares and Deutschlandticket above.
7. have a good journey!
Situation C
You know your starting point and destination, but don’t know whether you have to travel the whole route by NAHSHUTTLE – or whether part of the route can be covered by bus/train?
The following steps are necessary:
1. go to the NAHSHUTTLE app.
2. select the desired time.
3. enter your current / desired start address as the start and the destination address as the destination
4. book the NAHSHUTTLE.
Info: If you have a valid public transport ticket or a Germany ticket, please follow the detailed instructions in the
instructions in the FAQ on fares and Deutschlandticket above.
5. have a good journey with the NAHSHUTTLE!
Background information: The NAHSHUTTLE is a supplement to trains and buses and primarily serves as a shuttle service to and from scheduled services. It travels on routes where there is no bus service or at night, after the end of bus operating hours, directly from your starting point to your destination. Unfortunately, this is not yet shown in the NAHSHUTTLE app. This means that in the first few weeks you can also book journeys where part of the journey should actually be made by bus. This technically innovative bus/train + on-demand linking function will be implemented as soon as possible! Until then, we ask you to only book the entire journey with the NAHSHUTTLE if you do not know whether part of the route could be covered by bus / train at the same time and a corresponding search would be too cumbersome for you. Otherwise, the NAHSHUTTLES will be tied up for a very long time until this technical bus/train + on-demand link is implemented, sometimes traveling parallel to the bus service. This is not our goal – and in terms of capacity, it also prevents other passengers who absolutely need the NAHSHUTTLE for a route. If you know (e.g. at night) that there will be no bus or train service, we invite you to travel the entire route with the NAHSHUTTLE – after all, that’s what it’s there for! We ask for your understanding, are continuously working on optimizations in the background – and look forward to making you mobile step by step and in the best possible way!
